Drive time, I-70 tips and winter driving.
Flying in? Here’s how to get from Denver International Airport (DEN) to Dillon and Lake Dillon — the drive, the timing and a few tips for I-70.
Dillon is about 90 miles west of DEN — roughly 1.5 to 2 hours on I-70, depending on traffic and weather. The route is simple: I-70 West through the Eisenhower–Johnson Tunnel, then Exit 205 for Dillon/Silverthorne.
I-70 is busiest heading up on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings, and coming down on Sunday afternoons and holidays. Travel early or late to skip the worst of it, and always build in extra time in winter.
Colorado’s traction law can require snow tires, all-wheel drive or chains on I-70 in winter. Check conditions at COtrip.org or dial 511 before you head up, and keep your tank at least half full in storms.
Eagle County (EGE) is about an hour west and can be handy in ski season; Colorado Springs (COS) is about 2.5 hours southeast.
