Trying to decide where to stay in Summit County? Dillon, Frisco and Keystone are the three most popular home bases, all within about 15 minutes of each other. Here’s an honest comparison to help you choose.
Keystone is a full resort town built around the slopes, with River Run Village at the base — shops, restaurants, an ice rink in winter and true ski-in/ski-out lodging. It’s the most convenient if skiing Keystone every day is your only goal, but it’s also the priciest option and quieter at night once the lifts close.
Frisco has arguably the prettiest Main Street in the county — a walkable stretch of independent shops, bakeries, breweries and historic buildings. It’s central and lively, and a great pick if a classic mountain-town strolling scene is what you’re after. It doesn’t have direct lake access the way Dillon does.
Dillon is built right around the reservoir. Staying here puts you within walking distance of the marina, the lakeside rec path, the Friday Farmers Market and the Dillon Amphitheater — a lakefront concert venue you can’t walk to from Frisco or Keystone. It’s central to every ski area, with the free shuttle to Keystone right out front, and generally better value than staying on-mountain.
Choose Keystone for pure ski-in convenience, Frisco for Main Street atmosphere, and Dillon if you want the lake, concerts, a central location and the best all-round value. They’re all close, so wherever you stay, the others are an easy visit.
