One of the best things about staying near Lake Dillon is how many ski resorts you can reach from a single home base. Six mountains sit within about 40 minutes of our Dillon condo — here’s each one, who it’s best for, and how to get there, ranked by drive time.
The closest major resort, and the one the free Summit Stage ski shuttle out front runs straight to. Keystone is a fantastic family and beginner-to-intermediate mountain, with a huge amount of groomed terrain, a dedicated kids’ area and night skiing under the lights — a rare treat. Because the shuttle stops at the building, you can ski Keystone without ever moving the car.
A local favorite right on the Continental Divide. Loveland is unpretentious and great value — big, high-alpine terrain, free close-in parking, and one of the longest seasons in the state, all without resort-town crowds or prices. Best for skiers who care more about snow and terrain than village amenities.
“The Legend.” A-Basin is steep, high and no-frills, with some of the most challenging in-bounds terrain in Colorado and a season that often runs into June. Best for advanced skiers and riders — and anyone who wants to say they skied on the Fourth of July. The famous parking-lot tailgate scene is a rite of passage.
One of the most popular resorts in the country, with terrain for every level across five peaks and a lively, historic Main Street for après-ski, dining and shopping. Best for groups with mixed abilities who want a big-mountain day followed by a real town scene.
A big, naturally divided mountain — beginner terrain on one side, expert on the other — which makes it excellent for families and mixed-ability groups who want to split up and still meet for lunch. Lift lines are often shorter than at the bigger names.
The largest single-mountain resort in the country, and worth the drive at least once. Over 5,000 acres including the legendary Back Bowls and Blue Sky Basin — you could ski a week and not repeat a run. Best for a special big-day outing when you want the full world-class experience.
The free Summit Stage ski shuttle stops right outside the building at the Buffalo Street stop and runs to Keystone, with connections across Summit County — no car, no parking, no lift-lot stress.
